The St. Louis Blues are back in familiar territory after an embarrassing performance against Washington. Losing 6-1, head coach Jim Montgomery hit the nail on the head with his postgame comments on the loss. The Blues were just not ready for this game, and lost control very fast.

When asked when this game got away from the Blues, Montgomery responded, "From the drop of the puck." He went on to label the opening icing as a clear indicator of this team not being ready to compete against the Caps on the road.

"We got the puck 10 feet before the red line, in the first five seconds of the game, and we iced it," Montgomery explained. "We weren't ready to play, we weren't ready to start on time, and we got worse after the first period."

This has been a growing trend this season, as the Blues continue to get blown out early in games. This is now the third time in 14 games this year that the starting goaltender has been chased. Not ideal.

The blame can be spread around the locker room and the coaching staff. Montgomery is not free from this disappointing season, nor are key leaders on this team like Brayden Schenn, Colton Parayko, and most importantly, goaltender Jordan Binnington.

From here, there is another game tomorrow night, in Buffalo. The short-term memory has to kick in on the plane tonight, as the Sabres are putting together a solid season and the Blues are not looking so hot right now.

Montgomery also spoke on what they need to do to get out of this mess, and start moving forward, “This is unacceptable tonight. It’s that simple. We have to dig in and show up for our fans, our city and our owners.”

Can this team turn it around with the quick turnaround?
