The St. Louis Blues started their six-game homestand with a devastating 3-2 overtime loss to the Edmonton Oilers.

After they seemed like they were down and out with an abysmal first period, they fought back to take a 2-1 lead. Unfortunately, a late goal to send the game into overtime by Leon Draisaitl, and the absolute absurdity that is Connor McDavid in overtime, crushed the Blues chances for a win.

This one stings.

Another point stripped away

We are getting dangerously close to the end of the year, meaning that every single point is going to count. This loss to the Oilers was one more point that was stripped away from them. Even though they certainly did not deserve to win with that first-period performance, being dominated in shots on goal by 13-3, this was a great performance from them. The second half of the game showed just how good this team can be.

It started with Jordan Kyrou getting his 23rd of the year, on the power play, to tie the game at one in the third. And then Colton Parayko continues his career year with his 12th of the year a few minutes later. Enterprise Center was rocking and rolling at that point.

Once the Oilers were able to force OT with just under three minutes left to play, you could see the frustration and disappointment start to set in. You could feel that this team was not going to be able to get another goal in the extra frame.

This was a wasted opportunity to steal two points away from one of the Western Conference’s best teams, and move themselves closer to the playoffs. There are not too many more chances for the Blues to grab points, as they are falling behind the pack.
