While the news of the St. Louis Blues acquiring Alexandre Texier is old now, Blues fans can still be hopeful and optimistic about what Texier’s future in St. Louis holds. His potential is something to look forward to.

GM Doug Armstrong gave up a fourth-round pick in the 2025 draft. That leaves us questioning whether Texier is worth a fourth-round pick. Texier is 24 years old and was a second-round pick in the 2017 draft.

He played for the Columbus Blue Jackets for the better part of 5 seasons. He only played in two games in 2018-19, but after the 2019-20 season saw significant gameplay.

Columbus Blue Jackets:

2019-20: 36 games, 6 goals, 7 assists, 13 points.
2020-21: 49 games, 4 goals, 11 assists, 15 points.
2021-22: 36 games, 11 goals, 9 assists, 20 points.
2023-24: 78 games, 12 goals, 18 assists, 30 points.

Texier’s performance in 2023-24 was the most solid of his career, with a significant increase in his total points and assists. The improvement in his stats shows he's reaching his prime and could be a big asset for the Blues.

St. Louis Blues: Texier may surprise the pundits

His ice time has averaged 14:47 in five years. Expect him to see a similar time in St. Louis, if not a slight increase. Texier, at 24 years old and already a rising talent, has a big opportunity to enhance his skills with the Blues and potentially outperform expectations.

Texier’s expected to play immediately and find himself as a starting center in the third or fourth line. Known for his flashy speed and quick decision-making, Texier’s increase in goals is a promising sign. He also only played in significant games last year, underscoring the argument that there may even be better performance from him as the years progress.

Giving up a fourth-round pick for Texier appears to be a steal.
