St. Louis Blues: Will 2024-25 be the breakout season for Jordan Kyrou?

There is no question that Jordan Kyrou at age 26 has the skill to play at an elite level in the NHL. The 35th overall selection in the 2016 draft showed his skill at his only All-Star game appearance in 2022 when he won the fastest skater race, showing that he is a very capable speed player. How he puts his speed to work will ultimately be how he differentiates himself in his career.

As Jordan Kyrou starts his seventh campaign in the NHL this coming season, he is one of the highest paid players on the St. Louis Blues and while he has shown some growth over the last three years, he has also shown some inconsistencies in his game and a drought in his scoring at periods of time.

Most of the criticism coming from his lack of defensive skills (he was a minus-12 in +/- in 2023-24, including a minus-19 on the road). Last season he also caught the fans’ ire when he made some unpopular comments after Craig Berube was fired.

In the 2022-23 season he scored 37 goals with a total of 73 points in 79 games (almost a point per game). Kyrou also had his high-water mark in shots on goal with 272 scoring on average every 7 shots.

Inconsistencies defined Jordan Kyrou's 2023-24 season with the St. Louis Blues

Last season Kyrou played in all 82 games and he scored 31 goals with a total of 67 points (No. 2 on the team behind Robert Thomas) and had 251 shots on goal, scoring on average every eight shots. He had a slow start to his season with one goal in October (seven  games), November was his highest scoring month with nine in 15 games, and only averaged 5.5 goals per month through March.

So, what will 2024-25 bring to the speedy winger? Last season due to his scoring inconsistencies Kyrou was moved around the lineup in an attempt to ignite him and others to score. For this coming season Kyrou should remain a first line winger with Robert Thomas at center and let these two young stars flourish as the key to the Blues future.

After all, the team has invested heavily in them for the next several seasons. A solid season with 40-plus goals will surely bring Kyrou back to being a fan favorite.
