After another disappointing loss, the St. Louis Blues are still trying to search for answers for their 2025-26 season woes. The Nashville Predators just took this team for a walk with a blowout 7-2 decision.
Captain Brayden Schenn had some comments following that game that should be instilled in each of this team's skaters and goaltenders. This team has to try to fix this mess now, or keep on getting embarrassed on a nightly basis.
Schenn on how do you change this: "Mentality. It's just simple as far as a mindset goes. We just don't do it, and that's every single guy. We have to commit to the little habits of the details to play for one another or if not, you keep on getting embarrassed." #stlblues

It is going to take a complete team effort
It has become evident that there is not one sole person to blame for this season's lackluster results. Goaltender Jordan Binnington has gotten the bulk of the flak, but look at the defensive unit in front of him and their inconsistencies. Then there is the forwards, and their inability to score goals to try and back up their goalies' misfortunes.
Too many times this season have there been "When it rains, it pours" moments. Whenever the opposition goes up at the end of the second period, it seems like the Blues clam up completely and don't even attempt to mount a comeback. In fact, they are 1-11-1 in those instances.
The Blues have to follow the leadership of Schenn and try to pull themselves out of the dirt here. Following the game, No. 10 also expressed his thoughts on his own leadership and how it all starts with him to try and bring this team back together.
Schenn: "You never stop trying to lead, but at the end of the day, I can do a way better job of leading by example. If you commit to yourself in playing hard, others follow. That's where my focus will be at." #stlblues

Starts and ends with Schenn
At this point, there are not many players who are more important than Schenn. At one point in the Blues' dismal loss to the Predators, when the game had no chance of victory, Schenn came over to a Preds player after a whistle and tried to stir the pot. It was a good attempt at trying to rally the troops and boost some testosterone into this team, but that cannot be the leadership style that will bring long-term success.
Schenn has to try to lead by example. Go out there and score goals, lay hits within the whistles, and provide a 200-foot game. Then, look down the bench and say, "Follow me". That is how you try to lead this team of AHLers and younger skaters still trying to prove themselves as NHL regulars.
This Blues team is a shell of itself with the major injuries to Jimmy Snuggerud, Alexey Toropchenko, Nathan Walker, Jordan Kyrou, and Nick Bjugstad. That is a lot of starpower, as well as fourth-line power, left on the sidelines. Schenn has to weather the storm until the team is healthy once again and hope that at that point the season is not too far gone.
