It was a devastating night for St. Louis Blues fans. Not only did they have to watch their favorite hockey team in the entire world blow a 3-0 lead to the New York Islanders, but for some, their favorite player returned just after a week from being traded.
Former captain Brayden Schenn, who was traded to the Islanders at the trade deadline, returned to St. Louis a few days ago and got to reminisce on his former home prior to the game against the Blues. During the game, waterworks were seen, memories were remembered, and you could feel it in the building just how much No. 10 meant to this franchise.

The Captain
Schenn was the 24th captain in franchise history, and certainly one of the most impactful. He personified the playstyle of the Blues, and his rough and tough game was contagious on this roster. His leadership was top-notch, and his resilience to not waive his No-Trade Clause last season helped push this team into a surprise playoff appearance.
This season, it was tough on everyone. And, the future has the look of being a slow and numbing pain for the next two seasons or longer. Schenn didn't want to wait that long, at 34-years-old, and how can you blame him? You only get one go-around in the NHL, and every season going forward is getting closer and closer to his last.
It is a shame it couldn't work out
It is a real shame that things did not work out this season for Schenn and the Blues. The franchise-record win streak in 2024-25 was magical and unexpected, and it was led by Schenn. This should have been a season of celebration, but instead, it was heartache.
The Blues faithful cannot thank Schenn enough for his efforts and consistency over the years. Numbers might not have reflected it, but there was always a sense that this team needed Schenn.
