For the Men's side of the Olympics, the semifinal games will begin today with Canada facing Finland at 9:40 AM CT, and then the United States facing Slovakia at 2:40 PM CT. This is going to be an incredible day of hockey, as three St. Louis Blues players are still alive for an Olympic medal: Jordan Binnington, Colton Parayko, and Dalibor Dvorsky.
For the Women's side, it was Team USA that took gold over Team Canada in a thrilling 2-1 overtime victory. The golden goal was an absolute beauty from Megan Keller, who used a nifty windmill deke around the Canadian defender before backhanding it home. What a game and what a tournament for the Women's hockey club. They were able to defeat their most heated rival and put the Americans back into the Gold Medal category.
And finally, for the Blues, there is a glimpse of their hockey season coming back to full power, and with that comes a lot of questions about the future. Is this team going to make any moves at the Trade Deadline? Or is it going to be business as usual, and the offseason will dictate what direction this team needs to go in?
Here are some recent news and rumblings to get you back up to speed.
Blues News:
Goaltender Jordan Binnington, who has not yet been announced as the starting goaltender for Canada's game against Finland, has gotten a serious bump in trade value since these Olympics began. It might be now-or-never for Blues General Manager Doug Armstrong to get the best possible return for No. 50.
These Olympic Games have painted a big picture that the Blues are behind the times in terms of an elite offensive defenseman that can change the game with his stick. Quinn Hughes from Minnesota scored that overtime goal against Sweden, and it become painfully obvious that their is not one player on this team that can pull that off.
