The St. Louis Blues are making a push toward the Stanley Cup Playoffs, but are also within striking distance of having the best odds to get the first-overall pick in the 2026 NHL Draft. That is quite a conundrum.

There is a lot of news swirling around this team post-trade deadline, and these last 14 games are going to be very interesting. With an uncertain future, there is simply no telling what is going to happen. Fans are also divided on this matter as well.

Usually, at this time of year, a team is either all-in or tanking. If they are as close as the Blues are, they are usually in the latter, but this seems a bit different. After selling off Brayden Schenn and Justin Faulk, this team has started playing its best hockey of the season, and is currently 6-2-2 in its last 10 games for a nice 14-point swing.

Let's go over some recent news and happenings for the Blues.

Blues News

  • As the Blues are heading into their next era, regardless of what happens with the ending of this current season, head coach Jim Montgomery will be a part of it. Not only will he be a part of it, but he is the best man for the job. The Blues are in good hands behind the bench, but have to start trying to form a complete lineup on the ice.
  • The Blues also just recently took the Calgary Flames to a shootout, but it was in a losing fashion. The 2-1 slugfest featured fights, injuries, and three overturned calls from Calgary.
  • Blues General Manager Doug Armstrong is not only stepping away from his current post at the NHL level, but the international level as well. He announced a few days ago that he will also be stepping down as the head man for Team Canada for international play, following the silver medal performance at the 2026 Olympics in Milan.
