The Olympics have reached the qualifying and quarterfinals stage of their competition. Today, Pius Suter and Switzerland overtook Italy, 3-0, to advance on.
This has been a solid tournament for the St. Louis Blues forward, as he now has to face off against a very good Finland team.
Let’s go over some of the more interesting Blues news over the last couple of days and highlight why Canada might be the best team ever.
Blues News
Once these Olympics finish up, there is a quick turnaround before the Trade Deadline on March 6. The Blues can completely turn themselves around for next season if they make the right moves. This rumor might not be the one to do it, but it is definitely something to still entertain.
Looking at the USA squad, there might be a chance that this Olympic Tournament will be the one they win gold in. There might have been the wrong pieces left at home, like Jason Robertson from Dallas or Cole Caufield of Montreal. What about another player, namely, from the Blues' blossoming future?
Canada’s best team ever?
Jordan Binnington and Colton Parayko might be a part of the greatest hockey team ever made. Not only in Canadian history, but for the entirety of the Olympics history.
Binnington sits at 2-0-0 in his two appearances, allowing two goals on 40 shots faced. He has been a key part of Canada’s unbeaten preliminary round, even though the real story has been on the offensive onslaught. The only thing standing in their way of winning a gold medal is the goaltending from No. 50.
These next few games are going to be very important for Binnington, as now it is lose and go home. Parayko has a similarly big job to do, but the defensive unit around him can cover his misfortunes if need be. Interestingly, No. 55 is the only member of Team Canada to not register a point yet, having played all three games.
