Overview:
On one hand, you try to put these losses in the perspective that the Blues were playing very good teams, so wins would always be hard to come by. That said, they've all but closed the door on their playoff hopes.
St. Louis was simply not in a spot where they could absorb a three-game losing streak. That's what they've got and it's possible it could snowball from here.
This all stems from that awful game in Utah. They had a chance to get their first three-game win streak and came out about as flat as we've seen them all year.
You sneak out of Vegas with a win, but then come home, and instead of using that win to propel you, you allow two goals in each first period over the next three games. Win or lose, they've allowed four goals in four out of the last five too.
Special teams are just bad on both sides. Nobody respects our power play and they're knifing through the penalty kill like a hot knife through butter.
Now, the Blues are really behind the eight ball. You're five points out of a playoff spot and the other teams all have games in hand.
You have to win in Colorado in the next game, or this losing streak will almost surely hit five games since the Blues just can't beat Utah/Arizona the last few years.
There's just not much this team can do unless the current roster pulls their heads out of the cracks. There aren't any trade possibilities out there due to a lack of production combined with no trade clauses.
Expecting anyone in the minors to provide much of a spark isn't realistic. St. Louis just doesn't have much hope now.
It's not over, but I don't expect it to turn around any longer either.
