Pro: Hofer
No goalie wants to give up five goals. They don't want to give up any goals.
However, this could have easily been another game like the one in Ottawa if Hofer hadn't made some good stops. I'm not going to pretend like he was on fire and standing on his head, but he ended the night with 31 saves.
There wasn't much he could do about the ones that did get by him. One was knocked out of midair, another saw his teammate with a great backside pass to an open Avs player and a third just let a top-line forward come right in and take an uncontested shot.
Con: Special teams
The special teams woes of this team have taken a new direction. In years past, you got very frustrated because you believed it should be better.
Now, it's just expected they won't get the job done. It's never been quite this bad on both sides.
The power play didn't get the job done since the team had no goals. Sure, they came close on those post shots, but they're just not even generating any fear or sweat from their opponent.
The PK is atrocious. Bad luck or not, you can't go 0-2 on your first two penalty kills. They calmed down and did better later, but the Avs also missed some passes that would have been goals, so it's not like the penalty kill turned it around.
