St. Louis Blues unique Winter Classic uniform will be an instant hit
The St. Louis Blues recently unveiled a terrific Winter Classic uniform, and it’s one fans will likely embrace, even if it doesn’t contain the famed music note.
If the St. Louis Blues permanently switched to wearing what they got cooked up for the Winter Classic, you won’t hear this uniform monitor complain. While the Blues current uniforms aren’t bad, they’re far from perfect in my subjective mind, mainly because I have a ‘zero tolerance policy’ in mixing shades of Blue.
Yeah, their current alternates are my favorite in their current uniform palette, but wow, give me those Winter Classic uniforms any time, and they’ll have a winner.
Want a rundown on just how cool these uniforms are? NHL.com gave us a descriptive rundown, saying, “The Blues’ uniform pays homage to St. Louis’ hockey heritage. The jersey’s primary wordmark represents the first time in team history that a “Blue Note” is not the principal design element appearing on the chest. The font styling and numbers are inspired by an unworn prototype Blues uniform from 1966, and the jersey also includes a newly designed vintage-style Blue Note on the shoulder. Lastly, fleur-de-lis designs are featured on the inside back neck and hem loop labels to honor the city of St. Louis.”
Sure, some fans may not like the exclusion of the music note or perhaps the ‘storytelling’ involved, something that has become notorious in all professional (and college) sports today. But hey, at least there aren’t any strange ‘storytelling’ elements here that nobody but the apparel company would understand, so that’s a major plus. Besides, there aren’t any random color schemes going on, but instead, we’re seeing the Blues traditional colors at work.
St. Louis Blues Winter Classic uniforms are beyond remarkable
Another aspect that I like is that they also contain an actual classic look, something we’ve seen from, well, Winter Classic participants since the event began. This is a major plus that, because of the vintage theme, is a million times better than the NBA’s City Editions, the MLB’s City Connect, or the NFL’s short-lived Color Rush programs—even if we still see vestiges of the latter.
Should the Blues (or the Blackhawks) adopt these uniforms as ‘third jerseys,’ I couldn’t see too many fans complaining. Just for the record, it won’t happen, but I’m merely making a point that, because of the vintage look that contains the right color scheme, you won’t see too many fans in the Lou or the Windy City complaining.
That said, kudos to everyone involved here, as it’s been a while since I’ve seen a bad Winter Classic uniform from any of the participating teams. While we know what the Blues and Blackhawks revealed looks good, they will even look better on the ice when the big game commences.
