It is no secret that the St. Louis Blues have been struggling this season as a whole. The start of the year, compared to the team that had so much success in 2024-25, is vastly different.

One of the top guys who is seemingly struggling the most just hit a major milestone in his career. Robert Thomas, the best forward of this group, was the fifth-fastest Blues player to reach 400 points in 473 games.

On a night that should have been for celebrating, the Blues were handled by the Utah Mammoth, 7-4, sparking a need to press the panic button on the 2025-26 season.

But, with a long season ahead, can the Blues turn it around, and more importantly, can their star center lead the way?

Thomas has to get it going

Over the last two seasons, Thomas has been a point-per-game player on average. With 86 points in 2023-24 and then 81 points last season, he has been the closest Blues player to reaching the 100-point plateau in a very long time. But, in the very early stages of the 2025-26 season, that number might be a pipedream.

In seven games, Thomas has a goal and three assists as a part of the first line, averaging 19:37 of ice time per night. At this pace, if he appears in all 82 games, he will finish the season with a total of 47 points, which would be the lowest amount of points since his rookie and sophomore years.

Obviously, Thomas will not contribute a sub-50-point season, and things will turn around. But that timing factor has to be resolved quickly. The first line has had a bunch of changes, with Thomas Dylan Holloway, and Pavel Buchnevich on his left, and Jake Neighbours, Jordan Kyrou, and Jimmu Snuggerud on his right. There have only been 22 periods of hockey thus far.

All of the changes will eventually become more concrete. Thomas will get himself going again, but the clock is ticking. It is nice that he was able to nail a big milestone, and there are plenty more to come. But, the current state of the Blues is shaky, and all eyes are on the offense to fix this mess.
