With the return of Jake Neighbours and the unofficial declaration that Dalibor Dvorsky will stay in the NHL, there had to be an odd-man out for the St. Louis Blues. That odd-man out was Alexandre Texier, who has seen his fair share of healthy scratches to start this season.
Now, after being placed on waivers yesterday, his contract, worth an AAV of $2.1 million, was not picked up by another NHL team. Meaning that he cleared it. The Blues announced this afternoon that No. 9 will be spending his future down in the American Hockey League with Springfield.

There are a couple of different things that can happen here. Restructuring his contract to be cut down, but remain a member of the Blues, is a possibility. Completely terminating his contract and letting him go is another valid reason for this kind of move. Finally, there is another situation where he could use his time down in Springfield to revive his game, and when given another opportunity, succeed where it matters most.
Either way, with a full and healthy roster, there has to be someone to sit out. Texier just did not do enough this season to warrant his place in the amount of time he had to prove it. With the Olympics only a few months away, and his placement on the French National team secured, this is going to get very interesting for him.
