The St. Louis Blues have just about erased their old identity and are moving into a new era. With much of the old core pieces now on other teams, and still some potential moves to make in the 2026-27 season, this is going to feel a bit different in October.
The idea of playoff hockey has not really been on Blues fans' minds in recent years, except for last season following the surprise appearance in 2024-25. And that is going to remain for this upcoming year.
Different vibe but a positive one
At the moment, there is a blend of uncertainty and hope surrounding the Blues. For a team that is going to be moving forward with younger and inexperienced talent, the worries will come but soon pass. For the first time in a long time, it seems like there is a light at the end of this tunnel of despair.
The Blues haven't tanked and have played competitive hockey at every turn. The idea of laying down was never on the agenda, and that will continue for 2026-27. Playoffs are not expected to be in the game plan, but of course, it is a welcome idea.
Eyes on the future with what is already acquired
There is no more need to try to get a top-draft pick. No more need to sell off to get more draft capital. The pipeline is overfilled with above-average prospects that are itching to make it to the big leagues.
This is a great position to be in, but still one that requires patience. These younger players like Justin Carbonneau and Adam Jiricek, as well as the new first-round picks in Tynan Lawrence and Maddox Deganais, are going to need a little more time before they are ripe. Once they are, however, this Blues team is going to be dynasty-worthy.
What has already been acquired by the Blues should be the blueprint for either success or failure.
