The NHL announced the home openers for all 32 teams earlier this morning, and for the St. Louis Blues, they are hosting an up-and-coming powerhouse. The San Jose Sharks are going to swim into town on October 8.

These two got some history

The Blues and Sharks faced off against one another last season three times, with the good guys taking two of the three games. The goal differential was in favor of the Blues, 9-8, as each game was decided by one goal. You should expect that to remain the same

Of the three-game series, these two teams went the distance twice, with the Blues taking both of the overtime games. Both of those wins were in the height of the discovery phase of the first line, involving Robert Thomas, Jimmy Snuggerud and Dylan Holloway. And they needed to be at their best to combat the Sharks' impressive first-line star Macklin Celebrini, whose point total of 115 equaled that of Thomas and Snuggerud combined last season.

Importance of the home opener

Seeing as though much of the league is going to be getting started on September 29 through October 5, that would mean that the Blues are going to likely be opening up on the road in 2026-27. This is a stark difference from the 2025-26 season, in which they opened up the season as a whole against the Minnesota Wild, losing 5-0.

They cannot afford to have that happen again.

The Blues, as well as the rest of the NHL, will be playing 84 games this upcoming season. This has two sides to the coin, as does most big decisions, and you can be in favor or not on your own. But Blues fans will be able to get a sweet treat when the Sharks visit on opening night, and the start of the Alexander Steen era truly begins.

The future will be on display for both sides, and these players could do battle for years to come.
