The St. Louis Blues finally obtained a win in front of the home crowd on Saturday, defeating the Dallas Stars 3-1. It was a perfect win, and even more, a new narrative has been placed on this team because they shattered the old one.

The narrative that the Blues cannot win at home is no more, and now, this franchise has a stake in being a top team in the Central by defeating one of the best teams in the division thus far.

Why was it so important to grab that win at home, and what does it mean to the fans who live and breathe Blues hockey?

Let's talk about it.

Two more games on homestand

The 3-1 victory over Dallas was the second game of the four-game homestand at the Enterprise Center. With two more contests at home this week, one against the Los Angeles Kings and then the final game versus another Central Division rival, Utah. It is important to try to pick up at least half of these eight possible points, especially when you look at the rest of the division.

Colorado is on fire with a 5-0-1 start to the year, followed by the Winnipeg Jets, who are on their way to a potential back-to-back Presidents' Trophy with a four-game win streak at the moment. When the Blues face Utah on October 23, there is a chance that they will still be tied for third place in the division.

The fans needed it

After the bludgeoning that was the 8-3 loss to Chicago, fans were very upset with the product displayed on the ice. This was also following the 5-0 home opening loss to Minnesota, which was a shock all in its own after there was so much hype built over the summer. The aura of the Blues was that they were supposed to hit the ground running, following last season's success story and the strong training camp and preseason session.

That was not the case in the first two home games of the year. So, Saturday night's statement win over Dallas was a breath of fresh air for this team, which has been waiting since the 5-2 win in game six of the Stanley Cup Playoffs against Winnipeg. That was May 2, which was 169 days ago.
