The St. Louis Blues have had a very turbulent and underwhelming season in 2025-26, and it is not getting any better. With a disappointing showing against the Boston Bruins, losing 5-2, they now have another big test in Ottawa on Saturday.

Looking at the statsheet, the Blues have a chance to do something that has not been done since the 1974-75 season. The Washington Capitals, whose team in 1974-75 is regarded as the worst NHL season's of all-time, had almost every single player on their team have a negative plus/minus. As it stands right now, with the 29th game of the season on deck, the Blues do not have anyone who has a significant player have a positive plus/minus.

Has it really been that bad this season for the Blues?

Comparing to the Caps 1974-75 squad

Back in 1974-75, when there were 18 teams in the NHL, the Capitals held a record of 8-67-5 for 21 points. They scored 181 goals on the season, and allowed a staggering and mouth-dropping 446 goals against. You have to imagine how abysmal it was to root for them back in the day. Defenseman Bill Mikkelson led the team with a -82 in 59 games played that year.

Compared to the St. Louis. Blues of the 2025-26 season, it has not nearly gotten that bad yet. But, even still, they can join that Caps team in not having a single relevant player have a positive plus/minus in the book. Captain Brayden Schenn has the worst plus/minus with a -16, and the only saving grace here is Robert Thomas and Pius Suter, who are both at -1 on the year.

This year has been tough for the Blues, and it is still unclear how things are going to turn out. As the last team in the NHL this season to not eclipse the 10-win mark, and currently sitting at a -29 goal differential, things are not looking great.

Will the Blues join the Capitals on the wrong side of history?
