The St. Louis Blues have made their first move of the day, acquiring Logan Mailloux from the Montreal Canadiens. The right-handed defenseman fills a big gap in the right side of the blue line. The price is right-winger Zack Bolduc, who was a sensation in his first year.
This is a one-for-one trade, giving the blueline some ease for the Blues. But, was it too steep of a price?
Bolduc was an up-and-comer, with a big-ceiling attached to him. He wowed in his first full campaign with the Blues, having 19 goals and 17 assists for 36 points in 72 games. The best thing about him was his ability to shift around the lineup, making an impact with big minutes or in a limited time.
Mailloux, the first-round selection by the Canadiens in the 2021 NHL Draft, appeared in seven games last season and scored two goals as well as adding two assists. The right side of the defensive unit needed some bodies, and he can certainly fit in. But, with a limited sample size on his career, did the Blues overpay for him?
