That’s it, folks. The 2024-25 St. Louis Blues campaign has ended, heartbreakingly. With a 3-1 deficit in game seven, the Winnipeg Jets proved how great a team they are. Jets captain Adam Lowry ended the Blues ' season in double overtime after scoring two goals in the final minutes, including one with just 1.6 seconds on the clock.
No matter how terrible of a collapse and as devastating as that was, the Blues should not hang their heads on that loss.
Forced a game seven with best team in NHL
The Blues weren’t supposed to be a playoff team. They worked as hard as they could all season, made a coaching change, made no moves at the deadline, and stuck with the roster they had. They bet on themselves and won.
They set a franchise record for most consecutive wins at 12, and then extended their win streak at the Enterprise Center to 15 straight, including three in the playoffs.
This season has been nothing short of extraordinary.
Set up for the future
This team, which once had no identity and no hope as a complete rebuild team, has found just that. With a few minor adjustments and tweaks, they can compete every year.
Those small adjustments will likely come on the defensive side, as Ryan Suter headlines the pending free agents for the Blues. Outside of him, only center Radek Faksa and backup goaltender Joel Hofer are designated for free agency this summer.
The emergence of Jimmy Snuggerud, Dylan Holloway's career year, and the 1-2 punch of Jordan Kyrou and Robert Thomas proves that the Blues have some firepower up front. Those are some solid pieces to build around going forward.
This franchise is in good hands, and the fun is just getting started. There is no ceiling high enough for the Blues future, and this game seven loss is just another step forward.
