The St. Louis Blues are firing on all cylinders, and they are proving that they knew what they were doing all along. At least, they are putting on a nice show to make the fans think that.Â
Regardless, they are playing some of the best hockey in the National Hockey League, and are nearly mirroring their iconic franchise-record 12-game win streak from last season. Everyone, watch out, the freight train that is the Blues is coming through.Â
At this point in the season, with just six games left to go, there are a couple of scenarios that can play out. But all of them have one thing in common: this Blues team is not going to give up and is going to try to claw its way into the Stanley Cup Playoffs again.Â
Still a tough road ahead
With six games left to go, they have a gauntlet in front of them. After the heroics of Robert Thomas and the 3-2 victory against Colorado on Sunday, they have one more test against the potential Presidents’ Trophy winner.Â
Then they have the team right behind them in the wildcard hunt, Winnipeg, and the only team worse than them in the final three games is Chicago. But that game against the Blackhawks is definitely no pushover.Â
Pittsburgh, the second-place team in the Metropolitan division, is also on the docket, which is in a back-to-back with the third-place team in the Central, Minnesota. All roads lead to the final game on April 15 against Utah, a potential win-and-in scenario for either team.Â
Too late to not try now
At this point, there really is no turning back. The Blues are losing ground on the best odds for the NHL Draft Lottery, and that is ok. The youth group is gaining invaluable experience, much as Jimmy Snuggerud did last season. It turned out pretty well for this campaign.Â
The Blues have to just go for broke and evaluate their future by pitting them against the league’s best. That is how this franchise will quickly become an annual contender for the Stanley Cup.Â
