Following a heartbreaking defeat in the 2024-25 playoffs, the 2025-26 season had several other gutting losses for the Blues prior to their elimination.
From losing games that took them out of contention to finally hitting their stride once they were out of playoff contention, there were several games that you could argue were the most frustrating.
Honorable Mention: 4/14/2026, 7-5 W vs. Pittsburgh Penguins
Though it may seem odd to have a win appear on the list, even as an honorable mention, it’s important to recognize that the Blues were already eliminated from playoff contention at this time and fell down 3-0 early in this game.
Though it was their young stars, Jimmy Snuggerud, Dylan Holloway, and Logan Mailloux, who had heroic moments to come back and win this one 7-5, this was still a gut punch for those watching the Blues’ draft pick.
Had the Blues lost this game, they would’ve moved up to the ninth overall pick, a pick they were unable to trade up and acquire on draft night. In combination with the talent they missed out on, just seeing this team finally put it together far too late was incredibly frustrating for many fans after watching them shoot themselves in the foot several times when it mattered.
Honorable Mention: 10/15/2025, 8-3 L vs. Chicago Blackhawks
After winning back-to-back games following their rough season opener, they came out flat against Chicago, letting their rivals embarrass them on home ice.
Though the Blues had a respectable first period, they let Chicago score five unanswered goals, allowing them to win by their largest margin in a game between the two teams since 2008.
This game clearly showed the Blues had massive holes in their defense and goaltending, while also showing their rival was clearly not as pitiful as they had been the season prior.
Honorable Mention: 10/25/2025, 6-4 L vs. Detroit Red Wings
After losing back-to-back games, it looked like the Blues were finally back on the right track, going up 4-0 against Detroit early in the second period. However, the Red Wings would respond with five goals in 22 minutes and have a 5-4 lead halfway through the third period, which they’d pad with an empty-netter.
This would wind up being the third loss in a seven-game losing streak that made the season feel like it was already lost just 12 games in.
The Worst Loss: 10/9/2025, 5-0 L vs. Minnesota Wild
No game in the 2025 season had as much anticipation as the season opener against Minnesota. In fact, it had been a while since a Blues opener had as much anticipation as this past season. However, following a heartbreaker where the team saw their playoff hopes die when the Jets found an equalizer with 1.6 seconds remaining in the third period, it became clear that those 1.6 seconds had broken the team.
There was a new form of excitement that hadn’t been there since the 2019 Cup run, with new jerseys, new broadcasting, and a young team coming into the season. However, the tone for a miserable first half was unfortunately set during this first game against a team they’d hoped to compete with for a wild-card or division spot.
There wasn’t a single positive to take out of this one, with the offense getting shut out, Binnington saving just 16 of 21 shots, and the defense allowing wide-open opportunities. Mailloux also came out flat in his Blues debut, while Zachary Bolduc shined in his Montreal Canadiens debut.
This game showed the importance of setting the tone early and getting off to a good start. The team failed to capitalize on the positive momentum that had been built by the fanbase and instead slipped into bad habits that continued throughout the season.
