The Blues worst nightmare has just become a reality

The St. Louis Blues were absolutely embarrassed on home ice for the second time in as many games this season. The Chicago Blackhawks flew into town, caused havoc, and left without a scratch on their side

In the 8-3 loss, there were a couple of things that were made clear. But only one stood out like a sore thumb, and it has now become the Blues worst nightmare come to life.

What if the Blues goaltending is not all that great?

Goaltending woes

Before the Chicago game, goaltending was relatively good thus far. Starting goaltender Jordan Binnington had a bad start against Minnesota on opening night, but followed it up with a nice outing against Vancouver, allowing two goals on 31 shots. He was subbed into the Chicago game, allowing a goal on eight shots, before Hofer was put back in for the third.

Backup goaltender Joel Hofer was fantastic before last night’s “effort” against Chicago. Against Calgary, he also allowed only two goals in the 4-2 victory. He looked sharp, definitely a viable option to grab a bunch of starts this season in the split with Binnington.

Now it does not look like that it is the case. After that abysmal goaltending performance, there is some serious soul-searching that has to go on between both Binnington and Hofer.

The blame, if you wanna throw a number on it, is probably 85% on the goaltending, with the other 15% going to the defensive tandem of Logan Mailloux and Philip Broberg. Mailloux had one of the worst defensive performances in recent memory, analytically.

The Blues continue their four-game home stand with a contest against the undefeated Dallas Stars on October 18. If there was ever a time to win back your home-ice advantage, it is to beat the best team in your division. It is all gonna start and end with the goaltending.
