The first goal scored by the Canadiens perfectly describes the Mailloux-Bolduc trade

The St. Louis Blues were able to secure their second stright victory, capping off a successful three-game road trip. During their game against Montreal, there was a full-circle moment of the trade the rocked the summer and coincedentally became a big deal at the start of the season.

The mid-summer deal between the Blues and Habs featured Zack Bolduc and Logan Maillouc trading places. In the first period, a full representation for how that trade has gone so far was on display.

Let's talk about it.

Blues got fleeced, and it continues to show

The Blues needed a defenseman to fill the hole created by the "retiring" of Nick Leddy and then the "retiring" of Ryan Suter. Neither player has officially stepped away from the game, but they are not playing with the Blues this season. This is where a trade for a promising but unknown D-man for an established young forward happened, and the Blues continue to get fleeced by this deal.

One day, hopefully soon, Mailloux will prove to be what many have expected him to be. He has the skills, but the green-ness of his game and lack of time in the NHL have painted a picture that he is not ready yet. Bolduc, on the other hand, has been a fantastic addition to an already stacked Canadiens offensive group.

This opening goal proved it, as Bolduc threaded the needle and Mailloux was caught in a daze as Lane Hutson flew by him.

Mailloux has had his ups and mostly downs, but there is still potential there. He has talent, but he also needs to figure out how to unlock it. With some experienced defensive players around him in Colton Paraykoa and Justin Faulk, eventualy their teaching will stick on the 22-year-old.

For now, it is still a clear indication that Montreal won the trade. Bolduc will continue to evolve into a solid player, and he will be a joy to watch for a long time.
