Blues take the first period lead…

Calgary goes on the powerplay with just under 12 minutes left…the Blues rank 18th in the league on the penalty kill while the Flames have been red hot recently scoring at a 39% clip. Calgary with two shots and no blood with a good kill by the Blues…their 20th in a row.

Blues to the powerplay with just under nine minutes left. Calgary has struggled on the penalty kill…30th in the league. With 20 seconds left on the PP…Philip Broberg to Brayden Schenn and a centering pass to Zack Bolduc and from one knee…ala Brett Hull…he fires one low to the glove side for the one-goal lead at 12:49. Bolduc’s first powerplay goal of the year, his third overall of the year (all three under new Coach Montgomery).

Blues go up by two with Robert Thomas fakes out the Flame defenders and clanks one off the goal post stick side and in to get his 4th of the season at 5:11. His 3rd in the last four games. Jake Neighbours and Ryan Suter with the assists. The two-goal lead lasts 15 seconds as a rebound is snuck under Binnington’s pads…Jordan thought he had that one…2-1 Blues with 4:56 left in the first period. Blues back to the penalty kill with just over 1 minute left in the first period and the Blues held on to end the period up 2-1. Calgary outshot the Blues 14 to 8…34 total attempts by the Flames with the Blues blocking 11 shots.

The Flames strike in the 2nd…

Blues finish off the penalty kill at the start of the 2nd period…two for two on the kill only allowing three shots. 12 of their last 12 were killed. Back on the penalty kill four minutes in…playing with fire…and 3rd time was the charm for Calgary as an open lane shot beat Binnington clean to the short side…we are all tied up at 2 just over 5 minutes into the 2nd period. Calgary, 1/3 on the powerplay.

Blues to the powerplay, 4 minutes into the 3rd period…best scoring chance was by the Flames with a 2 on 1…Binnington with the save. As the penalty ends the Blues make tape to tape passes…Broberg to Thomas to Buchnevich who is on the doorstep to tap in the go-ahead goal with 6 minutes gone in the period. Pavel’s 7th goal.

Blues back on the powerplay for 30 seconds and then Binnington gets a delay of game penalty for playing the puck outside the trapezoid…4 on 4 and Calgary ties it up at 12:54 when the puck comes out from behind the net to the slot and the Flame player beats Binnington glove side…not much chance for Binnington to react to the shot.

5 MINUTES!!

Shot advantage lopsided to the Flames side…14 to 3…with 2 minutes left in the 3rd…Binnington makes his best save of the night with 49 seconds left as he had to slide across the crease to smother the puck.

3 to 3 and we go to overtime. One point for each team. Shots in regulation, Calgary 38 to the Blues 21.

OT!! BLUES WIN IT…Robert Thomas dipsy-doing toe-dragging with the shot ...a sprawling Vldar makes the toe save and with the puck lost in the crease Colton Parayko pokes the puck into the net for the WIN!! Calgary challenges the goal…situation room determines the goal stands!!

Notes: Blues 4-0-1 under Montgomery...The Blues were out hit 20 to 16 in the game...Blues blocked 21 shots...Binnington AGAIN the difference...Blues had 19 giveaways...Blues 1 game above .500!
