The St. Louis Blues conquered the 2024 (2025?) Winter Classic, beating the Chicago Blackhawks, 6-2. Blues fans should fully embrace what it was, as this may be the last time for a long time that the Blues play an outdoor game.
Here is why.
Third Winter Classic since 2017
Three appearances in seven seasons is quite a feat. Especially against some of the more noticeable and reputable sports markets, like New York and Boston. It is safe to say that they made the most of the opportunities.
If this was going to be the last one for a while, it was only right that they went into enemy territory, inside of one the country's most historic ballparks, and tore it down with an authoritative win.
There wins, both in 2017 and 2022, were both equally as impactful, but this one was just a little more sweeter.
Spread the wealth
As I mentioned above, they have had a solid amount of chances at the great outdoor game, so it’s time to share the wealth. With the influx of new expansion teams and teams that have yet to play in the Winter Classic, the Blues need to step aside for another market to shine.
This isn’t to say that the Blues will never be in it again, as it will inevitably happen. In my mind, I would not be surprised if they have a full day of Winter Classic matchups, stagnated to being live one at a time. Wouldn’t that be pretty cool for New Year's Eve/Day?
Bigger markets looming
The bigger markets are licking their chops at another opportunity at one of the bigger games of the year. I’m sure that Detroit, the aforementioned Boston or even a Canadian team is awaiting their turn next season.
That is another reason to push St. Louis out of the way, and in all honesty, it doesn’t hurt the city at all. They have always hosted a Winter Classic, back in 2017 at the home of the St. Louis Cardinals, Busch Stadium. What more can you want, except a return visit the next time they are selected?
