The St. Louis Blues are getting ready to start their 2025-26 season with a bang, opening up at the Enterprise Center on October 9 against the Minnesota Wild. There are a few more decisions to be made regarding the official roster for the first game of the season, but it has become a little clearer following the most recent roster cuts.

One of the most important storylines of the 2025-26 season is the emergence of their true first line. In years past, it always seemed like there was one integral part missing from it, and after the preseason and training camp, the missing link might have been found.

The best part is that they might have already overcome the growing pains and could have a hot start to the fresh season.

Snuggerud and Thomas connection

It is rare to have two teammates who click as fast as center Robert Thomas and winger Jimmy Snuggerud have. In just a few short weeks, the idea of having them complement each other on the first line has gone from a pipedream to a complete reality.

That was apparent throughout the preseason, as both players made effortless passes to one another, creating numerous offensive opportunities. It has been over 30 years since the last member of the Blue Note to eclipse the 100-point mark in a single season, and it is not far-fetched for both Snuggerud and Thomas to reach that.

More so, Thomas has been looking for another winger to aid Pavel Buchnevich on the top line. It is also worth noting that Buchnevich has not played with these two yet this preseason, so he could also directly benefit from their cohesiveness.

Snuggerud, who has a chance to secure the Calder Trophy for rookie of the year, showed so much last season in the final weeks of the regular season. Plus, he was a pivotal member of the Blues when they nearly sent home the Presidents' Trophy winners, the Winnipeg Jets, in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs. The hope is that he develops into the superstar that he has shown the ability to be.

These two players are surely going to rip up the league this season. The sky is the limit for the first line, which is surely a refreshing sight for the Blues faithful.
