When the 2024-25 season started, the St. Louis Blues were projected not to make the playoffs.. They finished the season with a record of 44-30-8 for 96 points, and they clinched the second wildcard spot with a dominating 6-1 victory over Utah

There were so many storylines this season, from coaching changes to trade deadline rumors and then the lack thereof, to the longest win streak in franchise history. There is one more storyline involved with this Blues team, and it is that this team bet on themselves and won.

Had to be perfect

This season has seen its shares of ups and down for the Blues. It all really had to be perfect for this outcome to happen.

It looked like it was going to be another rebuilding year right up until ex-head coach Drew Bannister was axed after a 9-12-1 start to the season. His replacement, and arguably the person who saved this season, Jim Montgomery, went an unprecedented 34-18-7 to get the Blues into the playoffs.

Up and down the lineup, there were incredible performances from Robert Thomas, Colton Parayko, and the newest star Dylan Holloway. This whole team took a turn once the 4 Nations Face-off break occurred, and goaltender Jordan Binnington benefited from helping Team Canada win it.

Never gave up

For most of the season, the Blues struggled to go on a win streak, a win streak lasting longer than two games. That is hard to believe, as they set a franchise record for 12 wins in a row down the stretch to catapult themselves into the playoffs. This team never gave up, and destiny seems to be starting to take over.

The Blues bet on themselves, not going after any big free agents and not selling at the deadline to supplement their future. General Armstrong might have just set up a dynasty by not making a single move at the trade deadline, and instead, believing in this group to get the job done.
