This player is close to joining a list of all-time Blues

If he adds a handful of game-winning goals, the Captain will be in the top-five all time.

At the moment, it doesn't seem like there are too many players on the current St. Louis Blues roster who could set any meaningful franchise records. In two and a half seasons, we can talk about Colton Parayko setting the all-time games played record and possibly being the first to break 1,000 games in a Blues sweater, but that's quite a ways off, and anything could happen before then.

This season, however, there is a very real spot on the record list for regular-season game-winning goals (GWGs). Number one on the list is, of course, Brett Hull, with 70, followed by Pavol Demitra with 45 and Vladimir Tarasenko with 44. Tied for fourth are Garry Unger and Bernie Federko, each with an even 40.

Not too far behind them, with 33 game-winning goals, is captain Brayden Schenn, who sits at seventh all-time for the St. Louis Blues.

Can Shenn do it?

Seven game-winning goals may be a lot to ask of the aging Schenn, but it's not out of the realm of possibility. The last time he had seven GWGs, Schenn was 25 years old and in his final season with the Philadelphia Flyers. His career record? Eight GWGs, set the following season--his first with the St. Louis Blues.

In the 2024-25 season, Schenn had five GWGs--bang on his 82-game average over his career, per Hockey Reference. Add just two more to his average, and he'll tie for fourth with Unger and Federko; match his career best of eight from 2017-18, and he moves into sole ownership of fourth place with 41 GWGs.

As Schenn's role is reduced due to age and an influx of youth throughout the Blues' lineup, perhaps it's a long shot he cracks the franchise's top five in game-winning goals. That said, with three seasons remaining on his contract, there's a good chance he's in the top five by the time his career is done--maybe even second place, if he can get one more than Demitra. That, however, much like Parayko's record, is for a future discussion.
