This offseason is going to have a lot of interesting decisions for the St. Louis Blues. There will be a General Manager change, likely some trades at the NHL Draft, and the free agent frenzy.
There is also the case of what to do with Robert Thomas, as his future still seems unclear. Which is hard to believe since he has been one of the best players in the National Hockey League following the trade deadline.
With his second career hat-trick, both coming this month alone, he willed the Blues to a hard-fought 5-3 victory over Utah in the season finale. Utah, a playoff team in their first season of their rebrand, are going to be a fun team to watch over the next couple of weeks.
Did No. 18 just will himself into the future of this organization, as well?
The answer should be obvious
Thomas' future with the Blues should be painfully obvious, and that was before this fantastic month. To put it into perspective, he finished with 64 points on the year, and in April alone, he had nine goals and six assists for 15 points. That is how you help try and keep your team in contention, for as long as they were.
There is a lot to consider with Thomas, and his future, as the current core is going to be nuked this summer. Thomas, Pavel Buchnevich, Colton Parayko, Cam Fowler, Jordan Kyrou and Jordan Binnington are not all going to be on this roster next season. Changes are coming for this team, and it will likely be plentiful.
With the emergence of Jimmy Snuggerud as this team's second-leading scorer behind Thomas, fantastic season from Dalibor Dvorsky and the starting role being handed over to Joel Hofer come October, the future is bright. The leadership group took a bit of a hit with the loss of Brayden Schenn and Justin Faulk, so older players like Thomas are going to be irreplaceable.
Holding on to Thomas is an easy decision as he is worth more than a lot of returns that they are going to get. He has a loyalty to this team, and that is hard to come by, and when you couple his fantastic play in an injury-ridden and overall underwhelming season, he was the most valuable player for the Blues last season.
