The St. Louis Blues are starting to heat up. They are on a three-game win streak following the solid comeback victory over Detroit on Halloween, 5-4.

Although he didn’t get on the scoresheet in that game against the Red Wings, Robert Thomas has been playing much better as of late. Not to say he hasn’t been acceptable all season, but it seems like this annual slow start is starting to heat up.

One of the reasons is that he is doing one thing that fans have been asking for more of from him. Let’s talk about what that is, and why it can help him and the team he captains.

Shoot the puck

With two goals and eight assists on the season for 10 points, Thomas is on a bit of a slower pace. 12 goals and 48 assists for 60 points is not terrible, but not up to his standards and expectations. One way he can correct that is to put the game in his own hands.

Shoot the puck and score.

We all know him for being one of the more talented passers, but his shooting ability cannot be ignored either. It is hard to try and take the shooting opportunities away from a talent like Jimmy Snuggerud, who is on pace for nearly 50 goals this season, but if it helps a struggling Thomas, so be it.

Has to be a more complete player

Thomas has to be a 20+ goal scorer this season, and having 16 shots on goal through 14 games is not gonna get him there. To put it in perspective, he had two shots on goal in both the Boston and Detroit wins, which is 25% of the shots he has taken all season.

Establishing a threat when he has the puck to shoot and score will do wonders for this offense. Thomas has to gain some selfishness in his game and be a complete player.
