The St. Louis Blues took their two-game win streak to home ice against one of the best road teams in the NHL, the New Jersey Devils. They could not contain them, as the opposition jumped to an early and substantial lead, before winning the game, 4-1.
This loss for the Blues was tough, and they once again remain under .500 on the year, at 15-15-3. Let’s break it down with three big takeaways.
Blues lose to a great road team
There is no other way to slice it, the Blues lost to an exceptional team, that thrives on the road. The Devils, who are 21-10-3 overall on the year, have a great record away from the Prudential Center.
At 11-4-0 on the road, this team likes to bring opposing fans to tears in their building. They truly are devils.
The offense is stalling right now
A once flourishing and red-hot offense has started to fizzle out. Over the past four games, they have only been able to achieve a total of 80 shots on goal. That isn't very good.
Even on power-play chances, it seems as though there is indecisiveness on when to shoot the puck and who should take it. Up and down the umbrella, the puck goes, to very little effect.
This offense is stalling out, and that was evident in last night’s game with the Devils.
Kyrou is still red hot in December
The only member of the forward group who is not feeling the December "blues", and this recent stretch of inactivity on offense is Jordan Kyrou. Now, with a five-game goal streak, he has been exceptional in December with seven goals and an assist for eight points.
He has been the main reason for the Blues recent success. Even in losing efforts, he makes an impact on the game by trying to keep them in it. Kyrou was the lone goal-scorer for the Blues last night.
