The St. Louis Blues faced off against the hottest team in the NHL on Friday night, and it took all the way to the shootout to get it done. With a 3-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning, they stopped their historic 11-game win streak and gained their first win in a sudden-death fashion.

There is a lot to unpack from this game, but here are the three biggest things to take away from it. Let's talk about it.

Spoilers

The Blues were able to grab a "lightning" quick lead with two back-to-back first period goals. See what I did there. It started with a Jake Neighbours, with a falling desperation heave at the net. And then red-hot Nick Bjugstad, who has two goals in his first two games back from injury, just 30 seconds later.

This was a complete spoiler of what the Blues were able to accomplish last season to catapult themselves into the playoffs.

First extra frame win

Prior to this shootout win, the Blues were 0-8 whenever regulation expired. In fact, prior to Jordan Kyrou going down and scoring the winning shootout goal, they were 0-7 in attempts. That is about as bad as you can get, and it could be considered a miracle that they were able to beat such a skillful team as the Lightning.

Let's all take in this beautiful goal from Kyrou here, and hope that maybe this gives him a little bit of a spark.

Nearly blew this one

As great as a win this was, they nearly gave it away in the second period. Let me know when you have heard that one before.

After Alexey Toropchenko and Nathan Walker both drew penalties in the second period, the Lightning converted on the 5-on-3, and then once again when Walker's penalty was expiring. With how the response has looked this season when the game is tied, or two quick goals are scored in succession, usually it is a loss incoming. Instead, the Blues held their own, and snapped the Lightning's impressive 11-game winning streak.
