The St. Louis Blues were able to gain a point in a game that they had no business in. Hosting the Los Angeles Kings in the third game of a four-game homestand, the home team lost on a rare power play goal in overtime, 2-1.
Let’s take a look at some takeaways.
Able to grab a point at home
The most important thing to remember is that the Blues were able to secure another point on home ice. Sure, it wasn’t a win, but a point is a point when their home-ice advantage had been a disadvantage to start the year.
It almost didn’t happen, as the Blues had as bad a first two periods as you can have. We will get into goaltending later, but as a spoiler, the Blues don’t stay close without a superb performance.
The Kings outshot the Blues, 28-18, and both teams were one for three on the power play.
Binnington is back
It is safe to say that goaltender Jordan Binnington is back to his normal self after that opening night mishap. He stopped 26 of 28 shots, including some high-danger chances like this one.
Neighbours might owe Binnington dinner or something after bailing his turnover out with a GREAT glove save 😂 pic.twitter.com/1kLeUkMF6M

Now at 2-1-1, with a 2.60 Goals Against Average, things are starting to look better for the Blues. The real question remains when backup Joel Hofer gets another chance in the net.
Adjustments have to be made, again
It is evident that some changes need to be made again. Head coach Jim Montgomery has already been “blundering it up”, but it might be time to turn that knob even further. Namely, in the top six of the forward group, with Pavel Buchnevich and Jimmy Snuggerud.
Buchnevich's overtime penalty ultimately cost the Blues an extra point, and that is a perfect representation of how his season has gone thus far. Something has to give with No. 89. And with Snuggerud, Montgomery decided to have him sit out most of the third period, and it did not seem like it was due to injury.
It will be interesting to see where the Blues go from here.
