The rumor mill is swirling around a Central Division rival's superstar, and it is likely that the St. Louis Blues would not be in on it. At least, not right now.

Kirill Kaprizov of the Minnesota Wild has reportedly asked his current club for a trade list, with his contract looming expiration at the end of the 2025-26 season. In another reported social media post, Kaprizov turned down a record-breaking deal worth $128 million over eight seasons.

Right now, if the Blues were to want in on a superstar talent like Kaprizov, what exactly would it take to trade for him? If he stays in Minnesota for this season, he can take his talents elsewhere, and the Wild gets nothing. But, before training camp begins, the Wild could strike a deal to get a disgruntled and obviously fleeing Kaprizov away.

What could it take?

Kaprizov, a 27-year-old left winger who secured the Calder Trophy in 2020-21, is an elite talent that should be worth every bit of what that record-breaking contract could have been worth.

Surely, Jimmy Snuggerud would have to be a part of it. Not to mention, probably a first-round selection for at least two or three future drafts. And then the Blues would have to try and re-sign him to a record-breaking deal.

It is a lot of what-ifs, and there are certainly a good bit of cons to this trade-and-sign, but for what Kaprizov has to offer, it might be worth it. The left side, which is being led by Pavel Buchnevich and Dylan Holloway, is a solid group, but only combined do they match what Kaprizov could produce on the ice.

All in all, it is likely not going to happen. The Blues do not need to go all-in on a player like Kaprizov, especially with what they have already. Snuggerud could be a superstar in the making, Holloway was sensational in his first stint with the Blues, and don't sleep on Dalibor Dvorsky to potentially make an impact this upcoming season.
