The St. Louis Blues have played 81 games so far this season, and their playoff hopes and dreams come down to one more win and some help. The Western Conference Wildcard race has heated up in the final week of the regular season.

So, where do the Blues stand? Are they in, are they out, what help do they need to get in?

Let’s break it all down.

One game to go

The Blues have a record of 43-30-8 for 93 points. They have one final game to play this season: on home ice against the Utah Hockey Club on Tuesday night.

This is an absolute must-win, and even if they can defeat a team that has bested them in two of the first three meetings this season, they need some help.

The Blues have been struggling with a three-game losing streak. They did pick up a point against the Seattle Kraken in the 4-3 loss on Saturday night, but it is not enough.

Need some help

That help is in the form of the Calgary Flames, who have a record of 38-27-14 for 90 points, losing one of their last three games. They face off against the San Jose Sharks on 4/13, the Vegas Golden Knights on 4/15, and their season finale against the Los Angeles Kings on 4/17.

If the Flames can lose one of those three, they would tie the Blues, should they win their final game against Utah. Both teams would tie at 94 points, with the regulation wins tie-breaker swinging in the Blues' favor.

The Minnesota Wild, who rallied from behind to beat the Vancouver Canucks in overtime on Saturday night, control their destiny for the first wildcard spot. They have a record of 44-30-7 for 95 points, and with a win against the Anaheim Ducks on 4/15, they have sole possession of the first wildcard spot. That first wildcard team will face off against Vegas in the first round, and the second spot will face the Winnipeg Jets.

If the Blues can win and the Wild shall lose, then the Blues would be awarded the first wildcard spot, beating the Wild out by a point.

There is still a ton of season left in the final few games. The Blues have to focus on their own business, despite the need for hitting the panic button.
