Who should be the next Jersey hanging in the rafters of the Enterprise Center?

The St. Louis Blues have been fortunate enough to have a plethora of highly talented players make an impact on their franchise history books. Those that were good enough earned a permanent spot up in the rafters of the Enterprise Center with their jersey number and last name for all to see. 

But who is up next to join those amazing names? Let’s talk about who is already there, and who should be the next one. 

Current retired numbers 

#2 Al MacInnis

#3 Bob Gassoff

#5 Bob Plager

#8 Barclay Plager

#11 Brian Sutter

#16 Brett Hull 

#24 Bernie Federko

#44 Chris Pronger

That is a very historic and important list of names. Each has a prominent impact on the legacy of this franchise, and it will have a lasting effect for many generations to come. 

Hall of famers both in the NHL and the Blues' very own, all of those names earned their spot up in the rafters. 

Who’s Next?

Looking at who could be next is an interesting lot, and four names stick out rather easily. Two of them are no longer with the team, and two still are, but their tenure may be running out soon. 

Here is the list, in order, of the next possible candidates that should be considered to have their numbers retired by the Blues. 

#50 Jordan Binnington 

#91 Vladimir Tarasenko

#27 Alex Pietrangelo

#55 Colton Parayko

Whenever Binnington hangs it up, he will be a definitive lock to have his number retired by the Blues. The winningest goaltender in franchise history secured their first Stanley Cup in the biggest pressure-filled game to ever feature the Blues, game seven of the 2019 Stanley Cup Final. 

Behind him are the three names of Vladimir Tarasenko, Alex Pietrangelo, and Colton Parayko. Tarasenko has the most amount of points scored by a Blue in the 2010s through now, and was a key part of the Stanley Cup-winning team. Pietrangelo captained that squad that won it all, and couple that with his impressive tenure as a whole on the blue line. Parayko is another current player like Binnington, and if he can eclipse the most games played in franchise history, that might be enough to have a No. 55 jersey hanging in the rafters.
