The St. Louis Blues have a history of some pretty classic jerseys, the 1990’s not withstanding. An artist took their crack at the Note and posted them.

The St. Louis Blues have usually tended toward a more classic look throughout their history. As jersey styles have changed, they usually stayed a little more on the conservative side.

Of course, the 1990’s changed that up a bit. The jerseys that are currently used as a third/throwback jersey were highly divisive among fans.

Basically, you either loved or hated them. Oddly, the current rendition of that style seems a lot more popular and it doesn’t have much to do with nostalgia.

There is just something about what Adidas did with it that makes it pop more. Even a neutral fan like The Hockey Guy agreed.

Regardless, there is a designer online, Lucas Daitchman, that tried his hand at the Blue Note. While there were no major alterations, the new design is…well, interesting.

Really, there are not a ton of changes. The biggest one is eliminating the shoulder striping.

Personally, I like the shoulder striping as well as the darker blue, so these look kind of bare on the shoulders. Also, while I like the trumpet design in and of itself, I don’t think it meshes well with a modern jersey. It had its time and style to go with.

If we focus on the main jerseys, I like the white jersey. The absence of the shoulder striping is less jarring with that jersey and it seems more pleasing to the eye.

I’m not that big on the home jersey. The blue seems a bit too light, slightly more like the heritage jersey and I’m not crazy about the navy colored logo for some reason. That is clearly an insane statement given the team has a navy logo on their current jersey, but something just looks off about it in this concept.

The third jersey is something I am of two minds about. I get the design choice, as Lucas points out, being influenced by the musical staff as in the current throwback. However, it is basically just a knockoff of the St. Louis All-Star jersey, which I was not a big fan of. That said, it does look better in blue and yellow rather than black and silver.

The fourth jersey is basically just the current third jersey. I’m not that against it except, in the picture, it looks more like the main blue rather than a true lighter blue but that could be just the format of the picture. Also, using the current Blue Note on that jersey seems to defeat the purpose overall.

That said, as much as I have bagged on these concepts, I appreciate the effort put into them. If these came to fruition, I could see myself owning one of the road jerseys.

As with anything and everything, there are those on both sides. A quick look at the replies to this tweet show that some prefer these concepts to what the team actually wears now and some just aren’t having it.

What are your takes on each one? It’s all open for interpretation and debate, as with everything in sports. You can also check out his Twitter feed to see his redesigns of all the NHL teams
