The St. Louis Blues opened up their five-game homestand with a Central Division rival in Winnipeg. Since the 2024-25 first round playoff series, in which it went seven games of absolutely brutality from both sides, these two teams have had some very good matchups.
This game was no different. Although the Jets have had their own internal issues with the situation regarding goaltender Connor Hellebuyck, they have a solid goaltender in Stuart Skinner. Mark Schefiele and Kyle Connor are both notorious Blues killers in their own right as both are well over a point-per-game against them.
But, a 2-1 score went the way of the home team, and the good guys walked out of the Enterprise Center as a winner. Let's go over a couple of obvious winners from this game, as their really wasnt a loser to be had on the Blues side.
Winners:
Jimmy Snuggerud
Getting this party started was No. 21, Jimmy Snuggerud. Before the game, we had him as one of the X-Factors for this game, and his inadvertent puck-off-skate goal to start things up gives him a two-game goal streak. He also has four goals in his last five games.
Without Jordan Kyrou on this roster anymore, it is imperative that Snuggerud fill into that role of "top goal-scorer". He has that skill set with a wicked shot and a knack for finding open space to shoot. The idea of him, Dalibor Dvorsky, and Justin Carbonneau is still a pipedream, but could be one of the best lines this franchise has ever seen.
Against the Jets, Snuggerud was a game-changer.
Joel Hofer
Standing on his head once again was goaltender Joel Hofer. Even if backup Jordan Binnington was putting up better numbers than he has shown, this would still be a one-horse race for the starting spot. He stopped 32 of 33 shots, and his Goals Against Average and save percentage now read 2.19 and .919, respectively.
Hofer has been fantastic this season, and this is another reason why he will be this franchise's future.
Philip Broberg
The first star of the night was Philip Broberg. A multi-point night, including the game-winner on the power play in the third period, No. 6 had himself a night. There is much to be said about his spot on the power play as the QB, and what will happen when Logan Mailloux returns from injury, but Broberg is earning his stripes right now.
With an "A" on his chest, this one-timer snipe was exactly what this team needed to win the game, and to hopefully breathe some life into this power play unit.
