With all roads leading to this monumental 2026 edition of the NHL Draft, the entire league has been flipped upside down in the last 48 hours. At the forefront of the chaos is the St. Louis Blues, who are bullying the competition at this point and will be a very interesting team to watch on draft night.

General Manager Doug Armstrong is not holding anything back in his last draft as the man in charge, and that was evident in the deal that moved Jordan Kyrou to Washington. The old regime is almost all the way forgotten, with one more big piece to try and move.

If Kyrou, Brayden Schenn, and Justin Faulk can be traded, there is nothing holding back Armstrong from offloading Binnington. The path is clearer now than it has ever been.

Very high chance of happening

Since the end of the 2025-26 season, the rumors of Binnington being traded this summer have circled like a vulture looking for its next snack. Around and around, the talks have included No. 50 by name, and there are a lot of teams in need of a goaltender like him. Florida, Winnipeg, and Edmonton are some of the bigger ones that jump off the page.

Armstrong has pulled the trigger on some other core pieces already and gotten back a solid return. The Blues are now set up with four first-round draft picks to usher in the next generation of superstars. Well, that is the hope at least.

Binnington has lost his starting net to Joel Hofer, and he would be a great back-up, but an expensive one. The need to move on from him is very apparent and an obvious choice.

Could be the biggest return of them all

Schenn, Faulk, and now Kyrou have brought back some serious returns. But, they will be nothing compared to what would come back around if a deal for Binnington were made. A bonafide NHLer, a first-round pick and a mid-tier prospect have been Armstrong's major asking price for most of the core pieces alread. moved, and that will likely stay the same for Binnington.

Binnington is worth more now as a trade chip than as a member of the Blues roster. It is a hard thing to read, but it is the truth. Moving on from him is gonna hurt the fans, but the other side of the river shows some promise in what the Blues get back in return.

Armstrong went all-in by getting rid of Kyrou, and now, he has every right to go even further by getting rid of Binnington.
