Blues fans must expect a different kind of Jordan Kyrou in 2025-26

Jordan Kyrou might be the St. Louis Blues most frustrating player, despite his on-ice talents and heroics. So expect more in 2025-26.

Jordan Kyrou is a good player, and there are a lot of St. Louis Blues fans out there who'd echo that statement. But here's the frustrating part: He's got the potential to be outstanding, and it seems like he can't break through to that threshold.

Last season, he'd have stretches where he'd produce with an outrageous amount of points, but then he'd disappear for stretches. He had 70 points and 36 goals in 82 games in 2024-25, and he can consistently get somewhere around that number, something he's done since his breakout 2021-22 campaign.

But you'd have thought Kyrou would've easily been in the 85-90-point range by now. That hasn't happened, and now that he's entrenched in his prime, the question's now: Will it ever happen, or is Kyrou nothing more than a very, very good supporting cast member?

This isn't critiquing Kyrou, whose productivity's no joke. Put him on a team like the Colorado Avalanche or the Dallas Stars, and he's pushing you closer to a championship. As for the Blues? A team that lacks a clear-cut star player, even if guys like Kyrou or Robert Thomas have potential? Then he needs to step up.

St. Louis Blues fans are waiting for Jordan Kyrou to take it into high gear

Kyrou's a surefire top-six player, and one whose play in all three zones was one of many reasons the Blues made the playoffs. But if Kyrou can take his game to another level and be the focal point of opponents game planning against the Blues?

Think of how that would open things up for potential linemates like Pavel Buchnevich and Dylan Holloway, just to name a couple of them. That's the impact Kyrou's capable of if he gets more consistent, and I feel like I'm repeating claims here, given the number of times I talked about this last season.

And if there's ever a year to kick it up a notch, it's now, with the Blues on the cusp of being that next great contender in the Central Division. No, Kyrou alone won't take this team's fortunes up another rung, but more consistent play means more points for the Blues, and they won't be playing catch-up hockey like they did during the latter part of 2024-25.

We'll see if Kyrou's up for the challenge. And if he is, plus a few more of his cohorts, then if you thought it was fun to watch Blues hockey last year, you honestly haven't seen anything yet. Not since 2019, anyway.
