The St. Louis Blues have been on a pretty good stretch run as the calendar hit March. It seems the Olympic break was a fantastic thing to happen to this team, as they have come out on this side of it as powerhouses.
With a record of 7-2-1 since the 2025-26 season resumed on February 26, the Blues have turned themselves into a potential playoff team. Yes, you read that right, the Blues are still in contention for a playoff spot.
But it is going to take a run similar to that of last season's 12-game franchise-record-setting performance to get into the playoffs. In the same token, the Blues are also not far off from the bottom of the league as well, as they are still within earshot of winning the draft lottery.
March Madness is usually College Basketball's thing, but the Blues are taking that title on as their own. This month is halfway over, and there is plenty of craziness left to happen.
Let's talk about it.
Cusp of the playoffs?
Currently, the Blues are seven points behind the Seattle Kraken for the second wildcard spot in the Western Conference. The Blues have one more game played than the Kraken, so in retrospect, they are really nine points back.
With 15 games remaining, this is not an impossible feat. That is 30 points up for grabs, and they just need to win five more games than the Kraken do during this last stretch. Sounds easy enough, right?
Competitive Tank
Head coach Jim Montgomery has stated that this team is not going to just roll over and give up. They are going to fight for every last point, regardless of whatever draft position they are in.
You can effectively call this a competitive tank. The Blues are going to go out there and win, but should it not happen and they lose, then there is no big sweat as they are closer to grabbing Gavin McKenna or Ivar Stenberg.
Hence the madness.
This past run in the last 10 games cannot be ignored. They have been rock solid, with little to no weaknesses to show. Could they flirt with another 12-game winstreak this season?
