Juraj Pekarcik was one of the final prospects in the St. Louis Blues system to see his season come to an end.
Pekarcik and his Moncton Wildcats won the QMJHL Championship just a few weeks ago to win a spot in the CHL's Memorial Cup. Only three games were guaranteed for the Wildcats in round robin play against the three other participants.
Moncton dropped its opening game to the London Knights in overtime and fell 3-1 to the Medicine Hat Tigers in its second game. The Wildcats faced a win-or-go-home meeting against Rimouski Oceanic -- who they defeated in the QMJHL Championship Series -- to move on to the semifinal.
Pekarcik had a goal and an assist with three shots on goal in that one as the Wildcats beat Oceanic 6-2. That set up a rematch against the London Knights, and this time the Knights were able to end it in regulation.
The Blues prospect had just those two points in the four games in the Memorial Cup, but it's sure to be an experience he can look back on.
All in all, this season Pekarcik finished 67 points (24 goals, 43 assists) in 53 regular season games, 21 points (9 goals, 12 assists) in 19 playoff games, 7 points (3 goals, 4 assists) in 5 games at the World Junior Championship with Team Slovakia, and that goal and assist in the Memorial Cup.
