The 2025 IIHF World Championship no longer has any St. Louis Blues representatives after Denmark shocked Canada on Thursday.
Canada went 6-0-1 with just a shootout loss in the preliminary round to win Group A and set up a matchup against Denmark.
Denmark had previously picked up wins against Kazhakstan, Norway, and a shootout win against Germany to close out the preliminary round. Canada was a huge favorite to not only win this game but also quite possibly the whole tournament.
Unfortunately for Blues fans, it was Jordan Binnington in net for Canada for Thursday's loss.
He stopped all 11 shots he faced in the first two periods and looked like he might post another shutout with Canada holding a 1-0 lead with three minutes remaining. Denmark fired 22 shots on Binnington in the third period, though, and finally broke through with the goalie pulled.
Then Nikolaj Ehlers, the only NHL player on Denmark, struck to tie the game at one.

Ehlers, of course, is a member of the Winnipeg Jets, who also eliminated Binnington in the first round of the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
And things went from bad to worse with Nick Olesen beating Binnington with 49 seconds left to send Canada packing.

Brayden Schenn played a lesser role on the star-studded Canada roster. He had one shot on goal and was on the ice for the game-losing goal during his 13:08 of playing time.
It was a shocking and heart-breaking loss for Canada. They had a stacked roster and won't even get a chance to play for bronze.
The offseason is now officially here for Binnington and Schenn, as well as Alexandre Texier (France) and Dalibor Dvorsky (Slovakia), after getting eliminated from the World Championship.
