The second day of the 2026 NHL Draft has gotten underway, and the St. Louis Blues are not scheduled to make any selections until the third round onward. General Manager Doug Armstrong stays diligent in his last draft as chief, making another trade with his draft capital.

Sending over two third-round picks, No. 73 and No. 76, to the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Blues filled out a key need on defense with Brandon Carlo. The 29-year-old right-handed shot is going to be a fantastic addition.

Fleece?

The Mason McTavish and Jordan Kyrou trades done by Armstrong have been excellent this week, and he might have just hit the hat-trick. Carlo is a big body, 6-foot-5, and nearly 230 pounds. He is a 10-year NHL veteran with the Boston Bruins and the Leafs.

Giving up two third-round picks for an NHLer that is going to be a mainstay on the blueline next season is a steal if you ask me. Carlo is not going to put up a lot of points, but he is going to give you consistency on the defensive side, and his size feeds right into the Blues' mantra of aggression.

The Blues were also able to keep one of their three third round picks, and that can now be used to get some more youth. Fixing a major hole in the defense was key, and getting it for now and later is going to greatly benefit the Blues.

We shall see if Armstrong has any more tricks up his sleeve today.
