The St. Louis Blues made their first big move of the offseason, and it was by signing forward Dylan Holloway to a new extension. The winger has been a steady and consistent contributor since his arrival from Edmonton, and 2025-26 was one of his best showings yet.
Let's go over how great it was, and give him a grade for his play.
Expectation for 2025-26
Going into the 2025-26 season, Holloway was an intergral part of this franchise for a number of reasons. One of the more intriguing things with No. 81, is not only did he pave a way for himself to enter the good graces of General Manager Doug Armstong, but he also unlocked the way for another key Blue.
Remember at the end of the 2024-25 season, when Holloway went down with an injury right before the playoff berth. Do you remember who was called up to help fill the gap left in the top-six forward group. It was Jimmy Snuggerud, who is now his line mate on that lethal first line.
Grade: B+
Holloway appeared in 59 games this season, as he dealt with a few injuries throughout the season. He had 22 goals and 29 assists for 51 points, which was a tie with Snuggerud for the second-most points this season.
He has shown his ability to be a game-changer at times, and his physical game is a perfect fit with the Blues. But, that also comes with a significant con to his game, and it has been evident in both of his two seasons with the Blues.
Injuries are a natural part of the game, but Holloway has fallen victim a little too much so far. That has to improve, as he is needed desperately on the ice.
Where does he go from here?
Now, he has a brand new contract extension, keeping him as a Blue for the next five seasons. it is a hefty deal, that is very front-heavy. One thing to note, the Modified No-Trade Clause doesnt kick in until the last two years of the deal.
Holloway now has to try and replicate his final two months of 2025-26, and exceed a new set of higher expectations. Making the kind of money that he is going to make now, he is going to be leaned on a lot more this upcoming season.
