In Army We Trust
Mid-September 2024, Yahoo Sports reported that Blues GM Doug Armstrong fully expected his team to advance to the playoffs this season. There’s a little saying in St. Louis that goes something like “in Army we trust,” referencing the decision making of GM Doug Armstrong. So, Blues fans trusted and waited, but at times it seemed that the team may not even reach the elusive three game win streak. Then, on March 15, 2025, the Blues dominated the Minnesota Wild in a 5 – 1 win which marked the beginning of the clubs record setting 12-game win streak. That produced greater expectations within the team, not just winning, but playoffs, which the team accomplished after defeating the former Utah Hockey 6 - 1. So, I guess… Army can be trusted.

3 Keys To Success
First, the Blues made 3 transactions contributing to their current and future success, beginning with the addition of Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway from the Edmonton Oilers. Broberg is a much-needed addition to the defense who has proved he can be relied upon in all situations and is not afraid to shoot the puck. Holloway has the skill and tenacity to compliment Jordan Kyrou’s soft touch.

Second was the addition of head coach Jim Montgomery. Since beginning his arrival in St. Louis, Montgomery has been vocal about his passion for the St. Louis community and what it means to be a Blue. Montgomery has also played a significant role in bringing the culture of Blues hockey back.

Third, Cam Fowler has made a huge contribution to the team. His savvy veteran hockey sense coupled with his elite skating ability gives him the ability to float along the blue line and find a shot lane or simply hold on to the puck until one of his teammates becomes available. Bleedin’ Blue also reported that Cam Fowler would like to remain a Blue if possible, which would align with Armstrong’s initial message to re-tool while remaining competitive.
1.6 Seconds
According to TSN, the St. Louis Blues gave up the most 6 on 5 goals this season, but none of that information matters if the Blues win game 7 against the Winnipeg Jets. They didn’t win though, and the game tying goal came with 1.6 seconds left on the game clock. As a fan, it’s difficult not to experience disbelief, confusion, and frustration when I reflect on the season. It’s burned into my memory. During the end of season interview with the Blues, GM Doug Armstrong shared “I think organizationally, we had a decent year. Not a great year; a decent year,” which can be found on The Hockey News. Decent teams win, Great teams win cups.
