The St. Louis Blues had a successful first game back from the Olympic Break, with a 5-1 victory at home against the Seattle Kraken. But this is the heart of the trading season, meaning that rumors and murmurs are flying all over the internet.

Insider Frank Seravalli spoke on one particular rumor about one of the Blues' most valuable trade chips, Justin Faulk. The 33-year-old defenseman is having a great season as one of this team's leading scorers with 11 goals and 21 assists for 33 points. The top team interested might surprise you.

Oilers and Blues have history

The Edmonton Oilers are circling Faulk, as they need to improve their blue line. Their goaltending is very shaky, once again proving to be the one thing standing between them and the destiny of lifting the Stanley Cup. This has been evident in the last two Stanley Cup finals, in which the Oilers were outmatched due to goaltending and defense by Florida.

Both the Blues and Oilers have some history, most recently with the offer sheets of Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg in the summer of 2024. Blues General Manager Doug Armstrong obviously saw something that the Oilers did not, as both of them are key parts of the Blues' future.

Moving Faulk to Edmonton is a fantastic idea, as both parties could make out on the deal. The return for Faulk should be substantial, as he is having a solid year on a really bad blueline. Should the Blues want to rebuild and grab some younger pieces, they could target center Matthew Savoie and a late-round draft pick. The Oilers do not have a first-round pick, but Savoie might be a nice return on his own as he could develop into a nice third-line center behind Dalibor Dvorksy and Otto Stenberg in the future.

But, that also depends on how much the Oilers are willing to go all-in on this season. Faulk has a 15-Team modified No-Trade Clause, so he would have to put that he would want to go to Edmonton. On paper, this deal looks like a solid one, but there is a little bit of hoops to jump through to get there.
