Is the Blues losing streak a sign of what’s to come?

While the team remains hopeful, and there does appear to be an element of early-season misfortune, the St. Louis Blues have established a clear and concerning pattern: losing.

With just one game remaining in October, the Blues sit at a disappointing 3–6–1 record, currently riding a five-game losing streak. The last time St. Louis endured such a skid dates back to the 2022–23 season, when the team dropped eight straight games between October 24th and November 8th, a stretch that set the tone for a frustrating campaign. That season, the Blues would go on to suffer two more losing streaks of at least five games, including a five-game slide in late January and another six-game slump in late February.

While a five-game losing streak doesn’t necessarily dictate a team’s future, it's not something to get fans excited about. There are also troubling indicators beneath the surface. Perhaps the most glaring is the goals-against average (GAA), which currently sits at 4.40, the second worst in the league, ahead of only the San Jose Sharks' 4.60. Opponents have capitalized on St. Louis’ hesitation and defensive instability, exploiting weaknesses that have made the Blues reluctant to take risks offensively.

However, there’s a glimmer of intrigue amid the struggles. With the recall of Dalibor Dvorsky, one of the organization’s most promising young talents, the Blues may be signaling another shift, perhaps even the early signs of a new era. As the team prepares to host the Vancouver Canucks on October 30th, fans will be watching closely to see whether this marks the beginning of a turnaround or simply another chapter in a disappointing start to the season.
