As August comes to a close, and the theme week for the NHL division being about drafts and prospects, let's take a look at the Blues' best prospect. It is kind of funny to say that this player is still a prospect, but Jimmy Snuggerud can still fall under that label.

Coming in for an injured Dylan Holloway, who himself is poised for a great 2025-26 season, Snuggerud fit in seamlessly with the NHL pace of play. But can he be considered one of the best true goal scorers since the Blues drafted a player that ended up being a part of the franchise's top-10 goal list?

Let's discuss it.

Comparison to former Blues great

Back in 2010, in the first round of the NHL Entry Draft, the Blues selected Vladimir Tarasenko. He was a part of the Blues for 11 fantastic seasons, and performed adequately in the 2018-19 playoffs en route to winning the Stanley Cup for the first time in franchise history.

Over those 11 years with St. Louis, Taresenko scored 262 goals, which is the fifth-most in franchise history. Unfortunately, as the Blues were sellers and the New York Rangers were buyers at the 2022-23 trade deadline, Taresenko's tenure had ended.

With what has been shown in the short sample size from Snuggerud, there are some comparisons to be made between the two. When the puck drops for real in October, that is really where we can see it. Until then, the anticipation is that

Who else mirrors Tarasenko?

The Blues might be blessed to have a fantastic 1-2 punch on the right side. Snuggerud might have won himself some first-line minutes, but don't forget about Jordan Kyrou. At 27 years old, Kyrou is just 45 goals behind the 10th spot in franchise history, future General Manager Alexander Steen.

Over the next couple of seasons, both Kyrou and Snuggerud can make their mark on the Blues record books, and Tarasenko's greatness wearing the Blue Note might be surpassed. At least, it looks like things are trending in that direction.
